// RE2 Storyline

Claire drives into Raccoon City by motorcycle. When she reaches the city she makes a stop at a bar. It is empty inside, which causes confusion. She calls out for anybody who could possibly be there, but receives no answer. She turns a corner at the bar counter, and sees a man hovering over another’s body. Blood is splattered everywhere, and she automatically backs up, knowing this means trouble.

The crazed man tries to attack her, but Claire dodges and makes a run for the exit. She is greeted by a gun in her face. She shouts for the armed-man to wait. Understanding she is not a monster, he tells her to get down. She does, and the stranger shoots the monster. The man is straight to the point: they need to get to the police station – it’s safer there. Claire listens, and the two get into his police car, driving off. Claire begins asking questions about the happenings. Not knowing himself, the man says his name. Leon S. Kennedy. She responds with her own name, and says she looking for her brother. Leon then tells her to look in the glove-box. She finds a gun inside, and thanks him.

As they ride to safety, another zombie jumps up from the backseat. Trying to dodge its attacks, Leon steers off the road and smashes into a pole. The zombie is killed in the crash, but safety is far from met. A truck behind them as lost control as well – the driver, being a zombie and all – and is heading straight towards them.

Both escape the automobile, but the truck’s heavy crash has created a road block between the two. They agree to meet up at the police station.

Claire soon finds herself in a street filled with zombies. She makes her way to a gun shop called Kendo’s. Inside, the owner points a gun at her. She informs him she’s a human, and he lowers the weapon. She again asks what’s going on, but he does not have any answers. Just as they are getting to know each other, a group of zombies smash through the window and tear Kendo to bits. Claire leaves the gun shop in horror, and journeys through the back allies of Raccoon City. It takes her no trouble at all to arrive at the police station.

However, the only unlocked door leads to the main police office. A wounded police officer, Marvin, is leaned against a filing cabinet. She tries to help him, but he tells her its too late. He informs Claire of the occurrences in the last few months: the mansion incident, the STARS members’ attempt to have the story made public, and of course, the denial of citizens and everyone else who heard it. He kicks her out of the room after giving her a key card. She says she’ll try to come back and help him.

Unlocking the doors with the keycard, Claire begins her search around the empty building. When she finds her way into the STARS office, she reads Chris’ diary, which gives her answers to all her questions. After their story was ignored, Chris took off for Europe in order to find investigate Umbrella. He left without telling Claire, because he did not want her to become caught up in Umbrella’s mess.

After a while, Claire spots a little girl running away from a zombie. She tries to catch the mysterious blonde, but the girl disappears. Claire meets up with Leon soon after, but the man says he wasn’t able to catch the girl either. Leon gives Claire a walkie-talkie so they can stay in contact. They agree to split up. Claire says she’ll continue searching for the little girl while Leon looks for a safe escape route.

Finding a way into the police chief’s office, Claire is horrified to find a woman’s body lying on the desk, bloody and rotten. She is surprised when the chair behind the desk twirls around and reveals a heavy-set man pointing a gun at her. He lowers it after realizing she isn't a zombie. Then, he begins to admire the woman on the desk. He informs Claire she was the mayor’s daughter. The Redfield asks if there is any way to reverse the effects after becoming a zombie. He says no, and the only way out is through death. He dismisses her from the room, claiming he needs to be alone. Claire listens, and wanders into the back room of the office.

There, Claire finds the little girl. At first, the girl runs away in fear, but Claire catches her, and says she has nothing to be worried about. The girl tells Claire her name is Sherry Birkin. Asking where the girl’s parents are, Claire receives the answer that her mother called her, and told her to come hide at the police station. Before much more can be said, the girl says a monster – much larger than any of the zombies – is after her. She runs away quickly.

Claire is left alone, and forced to continue her journey. She is soon able to get access to the basement of the police department. There, she runs into Sherry again. Sherry says she heard her father calling her name. She squeezes through the opening of a small construction passageway. Meanwhile, the Redfield waits for the little girl to return. When she does, she throws over a key and some ammo. Claire is grateful, but automatically asks Sherry to climb back over. Unable to reach the shaft from the other side, Sherry says she’ll catch up with Claire later.

True to her word, Sherry is waiting in the chief’s office. Brian Irons has disappeared in the meantime, leaving the two alone. With some items Claire has found throughout her mission, she is able to open a secret passage on the back wall of the room. There, an elevator awaits. Claire goes down first to make sure everything is safe.

Her cautious attitude pays off, because once again, Brian Irons points a gun to Claire, but this time, he does not back down. He lets his anger out on her – telling her that his city is ruined and now, everyone is going to die. He then mentions something about Sherry. Concerned immediately, she listens. Irons tells her Sherry’s parents are responsible for the outbreak and some of the viruses in general. Claire is saved when suddenly, a G-Virus hosts bursts through Irons' body, killing him instantly.

The Redfield climbs down a nearby latter, and is caught up in more danger, when the very same host that just killed the police chief, slides around on the metal floor. Quickly, it mutates, becoming a large and hideous monster.

After defeating the monster fairly quickly, Claire returns to the office to get Sherry. The two venture back down, and eventually find their way to the sewers. At the entrance, Sherry spots her mutated father wandering on the upper levels. They simply make a run for it, but as they enter the next room Sherry falls into a suction tank and ends up landing in another level of the sewers. With no other choice, Claire continues.

Scenario A

Soon after, Claire runs into Annette. Annette fills Claire in on everything that is going on in the city - even to the point where she reveals the 'monster' Sherry was talking about is in fact her very own father, William Birkin. He injected himself with his creation, the G-Virus after Umbrella soldiers came to steal it. Annette also says Birkin wants to implant Sherry with his embryo, since they share the same blood and genetics. Worried, the two agree to split up in order to find Sherry.

At last, Claire finds the girl in the in a garbage room, not far off from where she just met Annette. During the time they were separated, however, Sherry was implanted with the embryo. The two try to look to the best, and eventually find a tram. They take it, and when let off, begin wandering through halls with countless zombies. Not far away, they find a turntable, an elevator-like device that will take them to Umbrella’s labs. While onboard, Sherry begins to feel dizzy and claims her stomach hurts. After hearing a loud roar outside, Sherry lies down, while Claire takes care of the problem.

The problem is Sherry’s own father, Birkin. Mutated and angry, he has boarded the outside area of the tram. Left to fight it alone, Claire does so, and barely escapes alive. When she returns to Sherry’s side, she gives the girl her jacket. At first, Sherry is reluctant, but Claire insists. When the tram stops, Claire brings her to a safe room, and tells her to rest there while she tries to look for a way out. Sherry confessions to Claire that no one has ever spent much time with her – not even her parents. Now that Claire has stumbled into her life, she finally has someone to rely upon.

Claire begins searching the chemical lab. Annette – wandering around as well – crosses path with the Redfield. Furious, she accuses Claire of killing her husband. Claire calms her down by saying Sherry has been implanted. Annette runs off to find her child, but is ironically attacked by the mutated Birkin. Claire rushes to the woman’s aid. Annette gives Claire the directions on how to make a vaccine for Sherry. She also asks Claire to tell Sherry she loves her dearly. She then dies.

Claire is able to create this concoction, but due to the self-destruct system activating, she cannot get back to Sherry. She contacts her ole' buddy Leon, and he assures Claire he will get Sherry. And he does.

But meanwhile, Claire is stuck in yet another battle. The mutated Birkin has once again chased her down, but this time, he is in one of his final stages of mutation. Claire battles with him using all the weapons she holds, until finally, the monster collapses. She boards an elevator nearby, one that will take her to a train, which will lead out of the city.

When Claire reaches the end of the hallway, she is horrified to see the train already taking off. Leon yells for her to hurry, but the Redfield does not know how she will get onboard. Spotting an opening between two of the cars, Claire leaps into it and makes her way to Leon. There in the car, she sees an unconscious Sherry lying on a bunk.

Claire rushes to her side with the vaccine. She gives it to the blonde, and in a short amount of time the girl’s eyes open. With a jovial smile, Claire announces that Sherry is all right. Sherry thanks her.

Leon sighs in relief, saying that it’s all over. Claire shakes her head and says, “No. I have to find my brother.” Leon looks at her and nods, telling her that this is just the beginning. He disappears into the control room. Claire gives Sherry a quick wink, saying her ‘god’ has protected her. Sherry looks down at the jacket and smiles.

Scenario B

Although everything prior to Sherry and Claire spotting Birkin in the sewers is basically the same in Scenario B, there are a few differences. For one, Claire has never met Marvin. Secondly, she has had to deal with a Tyrant – Mr. X, he’s been dubbed – who is actually chasing Sherry around as well. Instead of fighting the G-Virus monster after her reunion with Brian Irons, Claire fights Birkin. When Claire and Sherry enter the sewers, the monster they see is not Birkin. It is Mr. X. When they make their way into the next room, Sherry falls into the suction tank, just as the other scenario.

As Claire searches for Sherry, a woman drops down from an upper level and falls right in front of Claire’s feet. Dazed, the woman only mumbles a few things, but Claire quickly concludes this Annette – Sherry’s mother. She also says Sherry “has the G-Virus” but Claire does not know what that means.

Unable to find Sherry, Claire continues wandering around until she finds a tram. Right before she is ready to board, Sherry comes through the door Claire just came from. Happy to see each other, they embrace gently. Claire then asks if Sherry has ever heard of something called the G-Virus. Sherry says no, but once again, Claire tries to prod for answers. Sherry promises she hasn’t. Confused still, Claire decides it’s best to ignore it all for now. They take the tram, and when let off, begin wandering through halls with countless zombies. When they finally reach a safe room, Claire tells Sherry to wait. Sherry agrees, but asks Claire to hurry back.

Walking out of the room, the Redfield boards and small lift. She is taken to a small control room, where she finds a key. However, she spots Mr. X on a video camera, walking on the path she was just on. She shoots him down with a fair amount of ammo, and returns to Sherry in the safe room. She puts the newly-found key in a control panel slit. When they walk back outside, a turntable has been revealed. It will take them down to the lower-levels of the Umbrella lab.

However, halfway down, the turntable stops due to overheating. Claire runs out to check the problem, but there is nowhere to go besides a vent. She crawls through, and just as she hits the floor, she hears the turntable start up again. Not being able to return, she knows Sherry will be in danger once again.

Claire begins searching the chemical lab. Annette – wandering around as well – crosses path with the Redfield. Furious, she asks where Sherry is, but Claire still does not know. Annette turns, only to see a video monitor displaying Sherry being cornered by Mr. X. Claire asks why the monster is after the girl. Finally, Annette admits a sample of the G-Virus is hidden in her locket. They split up to find the girl.

Claire finds her first, just when things are about to get ugly between the monster and the girl. Claire shouts for Sherry to throw her locket, and the girl obeys. She then runs to safety. The locekt flies through the air, catching Mr. X’s attention right away. Claire catches it, and twirls it around while saying, “You want it? Then go get it!” She throws it into a pool of lava, causing the monster to jump off the platform in an attempt to finally have it in his possession. He, too, falls into the hot liquid.

At that point, the self-destruct system turns on, and Claire is forced to rush through the labs to find the girl. She spots Sherry at her now-badly-injured mother’s side, crying. Annette whispers that she loved her dearly and apologizes for not being a better mother. When she stops breathing, Claire walks up to Sherry, comforting her. Sherry understands they have to focus on an escape, and she quickly puts herself together.

They make their way onto an elevator, one which takes them directly to a train. They board it, but are sullen to discover it will not move anywhere until the gate opens. Claire tells Sherry to stay put as she tries to figure out to achieve this.

The woman discovers the lava pit which Mr. X fell into, but also a quick and painless puzzle to activate the control panel. She turns to leave the enclosure after succeeding in the puzzle, but is suddenly blocked by a gigantic form jumping out from the lava pit. Mr. X. Unable to believe the monster is still alive, Claire has no choice but to fight it.

At the sound of a woman’s voice, Claire turns to see a mysterious woman throwing down a rocket launcher from the upper level where Mr. X. previously fell. Claire asks who she is, but the woman runs off. Claire picks up the rocket launcher and smiles mockingly as she says, "You lose, big guy!" She shoots the monster, and watches as it crumbles into a million little pieces.

Claire races back to the train, and pulls the lever outside to make the gates open. When she reenters the train, she starts it immediately. The train begins to move, and Claire realizes Leon probably won’t make it in time. She runs to the door, and is surprised to see the man running towards it. She tells him to hurry up as he races closer to the train.

Luckily, he makes it inside, and Claire and Sherry greet him with a smile. The train rocks violently, and all three tumble to the ground. When the train calms down, Claire asks if Sherry’s all right. Sherry assures her she is.

Extended Ending

Just as Claire and Sherry give each other a warm embrace, they are plunged down to the floor. When they get up, Leon exits from the main car, and vocally wonders what caused the train to rock again. Claire shrugs, but goes ahead to the next car to investigate. The self-destruct system for the train clicks on, and behind her, the door locks. Leon informs her it is locked from the inside as well.

With no where else to go, Claire enters the next car. A mutated Birkin once again makes an appearance. This time, however, he is a simply pile of gooey mess. Still, Claire unloads all her ammo into the beast until it collapses. She exits, but is still unable to get back into the car Leon and Sherry are in.

Leon continues to pound the door, trying to figure out a way to open it. His attention is moved elsewhere when the monster-Birkn begins smashing through the walls. Meanwhile, Claire has made her way onto the top of the train. She climbs all the way down to the control car, and opens the ceiling exit. There, she is surprised to see Sherry. She tells her to push the emergency stop button. Sherry does so, and Claire helps the girl out of the car.

When the train comes to a halt, they get off, and assure each other they are all right. Claire begins shouting for Leon worriedly, but he makes his appearance quickly. As they hear one of Birkin’s appendages bursting through a window, Leon stresses that they need to make a run for it. All three begin running out of the tunnel, seeing the outside light nearby.

In the nick of time, they escape the tunnel, and the self-destruct system goes off, causing a large explosion to end the life of dear, mutated Birkin.

Safe and sound in the outskirts of Raccoon City, the trio rests for only a couple of minutes. Quickly and full of energy, Claire says they have to get going; she needs to continue searching for Chris. But Sherry and Leon do not seem as eager to search for this man, who they do not even know. In need of medical attention, Leon and Sherry are left behind, seeming both angry and despondent with the woman. Claire promises to come back (mostly to Sherry) and then sets off to continue her journey. Alone.

It is unknown what Claire did right after she left the two. However, various bits of information indicate Claire and Leon stayed in contact. Claire’s decision to start a new search as soon as she escaped Raccoon City seems both insane and chronological incorrect, but this is officially stated numerous times.
